61 Klas Eriksson Fleming (ca 1530–1597). King Erik XIV was dethroned in 1568 and succeeded by Johan III. Klas Fleming remained loyal to King Johan III and his son Sigismund. He became Governor of Finland in 1591, where he would visit his vast estates Svidja and Qvidja. His reign was violent, and he died during the uprising named the Cudgel War or the War of clubs (1596–1597).61
In albert Edelfelts´s famous painting Count Carl desecrating the corps of Klas Fleming (1878) the count is pulling his beard, while Fleming´s wife Ebba Stenbock retreats in contempt. She was sister to Katarina Stenbock, the third wife of king Gustav Vasa, which probably saved her life, when the count rose to the throne as King Karl IX. T
